History
In the year 1921 My grandfather E. P. Hartman started an upholstery business called Hartman Upholstery. My grand mother Lucille was the seamstress, and my grandfather also use to cane furniture. Not sure when Grandpa moved the shop to Broad ripple. His shop was located at 840 East 64th Street. This is a historic location in Broad Ripple. My father married Carolyn Lucille Hartman. My grandfather would have the furniture in the garage, but it was never tagged. My father worked for my grandfather until he decided to buy him out in the year 1962. My father retained the Hartman name. Hughey Hartman Upholstery later to become Hughey Hartman Interiors. My father saw better ways to keep track of the furniture. Amazingly my father’s file system was 3 x 5 cards which he carried in the top pocket of his shirt.
I worked for my father learning the business.
My father had many upholsterers come through his shop such as Paul Howard , Henry Washington and Mark Christ all these men went on to start there own business. One of the best artisian upholsterers is Willie Parker who still works part time for me. I started my own business in 1990 and called it Larry Hughey’s Interior Refurbishing LLC. In 2010 my father passed the family business to me and I changed the name back to Hughey Hartman Upholstery. I have been doing this with my team for 34 years. I met Linda Mordoh in 2007 and we married in 2008. My wife owns Savvy Decor
